Welcome to the refurbished and refocused Treasure Chest Ministries web site/blog! We’ve been “off-line” for a bit but it isn’t because we’ve quit doing what we’re doing. In fact, just the opposite. We’ve been “out there” doing what we say we do. That means we’ve spent some time asking the Lord to show us what, if anything, we need to change. Then we listened for the answer. Now we are more convinced than ever that this is what we are to be doing. Let me put it this way:
Our niece got married last weekend. It was a fun, celebratory, beautiful time. She is intelligent, creative, artistic and her family
and friends are very important to her. She had a vision of what she wanted her wedding and reception to look like. Having the vision wasn’t enough. She had to plan, collect all the pieces, put the pieces together and then use the pieces. The thing is doing all that was overwhelming at times. So much so that there were moments it was easier to just think about it than to actually do it. There were parts of preparing she had never done before and she had to learn what to do. How do you do that when it’s “your thing, your idea or vision”? You ask those around you who have previous experience or the same passion you do for your plan. Our niece’s friends made some of the decorations. Her cousin took pictures. Her immediate as well as extended family helped decorate, fix and serve food, her uncle helped her figure out the logistics and everyone helped celebrate. It was work but it was enjoyable work because there was a team with a common goal.
That’s Treasure Chest Ministries in action. We are a connecting tool for the Body of Christ. As we are made aware of needs of any kind we prayerfully connect those needs to those who not only can but want to help. What can be overwhelming for one at times becomes doable when it’s worked on with a team.
There is also the other side of the coin. Those people who are currently “doing their thing(s)” – all 15 of them, all the time. We believe that we are not supposed to be doing everything, all the time. That just makes us tired and crabby. Who wants to live like that? Not to mention it’s not a good representation of the Christian life. We want to help free you to focus on just a few things with the primary thing being really getting to know God. Then you will be happy to do your part when needed.
Had our niece not asked for help she probably would have still got married but I’m sure it would not have been the celebration she imagined. I believe she would have regretted not fulfilling her dream. I know we would have missed out on some wonderful family fun. Memories were made. A new family was formed with their closest family and friends present.
They were challenged to fully live their lives together and so were we. The same is true in our lives. We all have a vision but if we try to do it all ourselves we can become overwhelmed and discouraged. It might never happen. That’s a very sad thought. However, if we reach out for help I am consistently amazed at all the Lord can accomplish when we work together as He planned.
That’s it. That’s our story. After 4 years our vision is still the same. Our focus has been adjusted a bit. We now look for the needs as much or more as the “Treasures” to fill the needs. In the days to come we will share some of the opportunities God has brought our way as well as introduce you to some of the great people we have met. Are you living out your vision? Do you need a little help? Maybe it’s time you asked for it! Contact us at tcm@treasurechestministries.org
