Walking Through Life Together – Marriage Monday

May 20, 2013

It’s “Marriage Monday” again. Wow, I can’t even begin to tell you how the past few weeks have been the longest, fastest moving days I’ve experienced in a very long time. There are ALOT of things going on in every aspect of our life right now. Too many things for my mind to handle well. I’ve forgotten more things than I’ve remembered in the past couple of weeks. We’ve had days of not talking much and other days where we couldn’t seem to stop. We’ve laughed and we’ve cried. We’ve made plans and re-arranged plans. We’ve worked with very little down time or alone time. We are doing this season together.

Author, Gary Thomas poses the question, “what if marriage is not to make us happy, but to make us holy?”  The longer I live, the more I see and experience in my own life, and the more I learn about God I tend to think Gary’s question is a valid one. I believe there is nothing more important to God than His relationship with each of us. I believe He has done and will do whatever it takes to get our attention. Why?  Because He loves us. He sacrificed His only son so that we could have a relationship with Him.  John 3:16 says that “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that who so ever believes in Him may have eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” That’s love.

Then He assures us that He will never leave us. Psalm 139 says it this way,” Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.”  That’s an amazing promise. While we are human and aren’t able to be everywhere all the time like God we do get a taste of it when we stick by our mate through “the good, the bad and the ugly” as the saying goes.

Have you ever experienced a time where you’ve walked along side your mate down a path you’ve never been before but you were willing to go there because your mate was going? I have and I am. We’re learning together. Are you? Do you want to?

I know just how you feel, but for a few different reasons of course. I’m learing everyday with Ryan and I hope we continue to walk step by step through it all learning together.
