And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches.” Philippians 4:19
I once went on a trip with a very wealthy businessman. We stayed on the 8th floor suite in his luxurious condo overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. I woke up with the sunrise and enjoyed a peaceful run on his empty beach. He provided a gourmet breakfast and lunch, and we took a ride in his expensive car to a restaurant on the beach for dinner. I never once questioned whether I’d be fed, or have a place to sleep, or have clothes to wear, or have all my needs met while I was in his care. Why? Because my friend was generous, and he was rich. He would make sure I was taken care of while I was under his care…and then some.
So, why do I tend to trust a wealthy businessman to provide for my needs, yet question my God who supplies all my needs “according to His riches”? Does my friend have more resources than God? Is my friend more generous? No.
For me, personally, this boils down to a lack of faith. I know that God has provided for His people. I know He is still able to provide. But I still find myself questioning… Will He provide for me? When I look in the mirror, it reveals a sinner and a failure…what I see as a terrible investment. I easily forget that God sees me differently. I’m His beloved! He sees me as a worthy investment to pour His riches into. My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches, not because I deserve it, but because He loves me. Love gives. He loves you, too. Do you believe God will supply all your needs?
